How do you calculate a match total?
Add both players' points in each set, then add the set totals. For an illustrative match with scores of 11–8, 9–11, 11–7, and 11–9, the set totals are 19, 20, 18, and 20. The match total is 77 points.
A 3–1 result tells you that four sets were played, but many different point totals can produce that result. Missing set scores must not be interpreted as zero points.
What does over 74.5 mean?
For a 74.5-point line, a total of 75 or more is over and a total of 74 or fewer is under. The illustrative 77-point match is over 74.5. The line is a comparison threshold, not a prediction or an average.
An historical over rate is the number of scored meetings above the selected line divided by the scored sample size. If 6 of 10 scored meetings exceed 74.5, the observed over rate is 60%. Changing the line or sample can change the rate.
At a whole-number line, an exact equality is neither strictly over nor strictly under. Treat equality separately when reading statistics; settlement rules are determined by the market provider.
Why set count and close sets matter
Additional sets create additional opportunities to score. Closely contested sets can also raise the total. Two matches with the same winner and final set score can therefore have very different point totals.
Read the average alongside the minimum, maximum, and individual results. One unusually long match can lift the mean in a small sample. These summaries explain recorded matches; they do not establish what the next match will total.
Using the research board
Choose a matchup, a totals line, and a scored window of up to 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, or 100 meetings. Read the displayed count rather than assuming the requested window is full. The selected minimum sample can withhold a rate when too few usable meetings are available. Compare the contributing scores with the count, average, and range.
The selected research line may differ from a current bookmaker line. A historical hit rate does not account for price, margin, or changes in the players' circumstances and is not evidence of guaranteed profit.
